Thanks to Dr. Gina giving us a day off on 30, my spring break lasted for a whole week! My welcome-home breakfast was a hand-made Chinese omelet. Because it is made from dough rolled on the spot, it is thicker and chewier than ordinary, flat, and soulless. In the afternoon, I decided to get a haircut, but there was a little bit of miscommunication and my hair turn out to be a…… mushroom……. (It is arguably a food, so I add it to my journal ^^;) The breakfast of the second day was one of my favorite foods on Earth—RICE BALL! In my 19 years of life, I tried countless rice balls and most of them deeply let me down. However, this purple rice ball, accompanying me from junior high school to college, remained delicious as always (except for the price change🥲) Everything in the filling balanced soooooo well, like harmony in my mouth: the purple rice was not sticky, the fried breadstick was crunchy, the well-seasoned pickles were a little sweet and not too salty, and the braised egg is authentic braised egg, not unorthodox fried egg! It is really an outstanding and remarkable rice ball and deserves to be the role model of every rice ball! After enjoying my breakfast, I set out to my aunt’s house to help her make taro kueh(芋粿). I’m not bragging, but her taro kueh is the most delicious in the world. Delicacy takes time; I stayed there for two days to helped her from frying the filling, mixing, shaping, to steaming. And finally, I got 26 as the reward for my hard work. 🥳 The best way to taste it is to fry it until golden on both sides. It is crispy on the outside and soft inside. During the following few days, I had dinner with my neighbor, and she made vegetarian curry noodles for me. In addition, I made chewy chocolate chip cookies myself. It is super easy and fast: melt the butter, mix every ingredient together, put the dough into the fridge for two hours, and bake it, then you can enjoy your miraculously delicious cookies! On the last day of spring break, I had fried noodles and pig blood soup, the characteristic breakfast of central Taiwan, as my farewell breakfast. I don’t know why other regions don’t eat these two things together. They are soulmates.🥺 In the end, as a member of BPA (Breakfast Promotion Association早餐推廣大使) I want to recommend you all get up earlier and have breakfast. Breakfast is the most wonderful thing and the hope in life! I can assure you that the joy of having breakfast is definitely worth the pain!
